School With(out) Movement

Abstract

The text is about the “Moving School”, where school is interpreted as a place for movement, a space of life experience (VON HENTIG, 1993), where movement is considered a general principle in the organization and configuration of the school. In this perspective, it is about developing the personality of children and youngsters, not restraining game, sport and movement to physical education only, but extending it to the whole school. The “Moving School” is based on two elements: “Human Movement and Development” and “Movement and Learning”, on which many components of the curriculum that will determine the school’s profile can be set. The theoretical base comes with examples for class thematization. Therefore questions about the skills that the Physical Education students should have to participate of a moving school, the consequences for the formation of Physical Education teachers and reflections about the “Moving School” in Brazil are arisen.
