This descriptive text investigates the dynamics of teaching work at the university from the point of view of Physical Education teachers. Ten teachers from public and private institutions in the state of Paraná participated in the study. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and treated with content analysis. Factors found to influence teacher satisfaction were structural working conditions and wages, intensification represented by accumulated functions, and aspects such as autonomy, professional valorization and student profile. Both favorable and unfavorable impacts are related to the type of institutional bond – either public or private – and reflect the scenario of structural changes in the organization of work, which brought complex challenges and tensions to teachers’ professional performance in Brazil’s educational field.
