COACHING SCIENCE IMPLICATIONS IN ADVENTURE SPORTS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW STUDY

The aim of this study was to analyze scientific publications on coaching in adventure sports in order to identify articles characteristics, methodological directions, and thematic trends. We performed a systematic review in accordance with the ENTREQ and PRISMA guidelines to gather articles. 24 articles indexed in Scielo, SPORTDiscus, Web of Science, PubMed, and PsycINFO were selected. Most of the articles included were published in the last five years and the authors were from the United Kingdom. Qualitative methods were used more frequently through interview and observation techniques. The thematic trends were divided into coaching and development of the adventure sports coach (ASC). We concluded that features of the environment of practice (e.g., risk and instability) is the main factor to influence the performance and development of ASC. Despite being a quite recent field, the body of knowledge published supports future studies to be conducted.
