This study delves into the participation of transgender athletes in high-performance sports, with a specific focus on transgender studies. Researchers employed the PRISMA systematic review methodology, analyzing 37 articles from databases such as Scopus, PubMed, and SPORTDiscus. These articles spanned from the 2003 Stockholm Consensus, which marked the International Olympic Committee’s initial regulations regarding transgender individuals in sports. Notably, the Scopus database contained a higher number of relevant articles. The study identified four key themes: 1) Public Policies, 2) The Role of Coaches, 3) Physiological Differences, and 4) Suggestions for Inclusion. In summary, the research emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach that considers social and human factors alongside physiological aspects when including transgender athletes. By addressing these dimensions, sports organizations can create more informed and inclusive policies, fostering an environment that welcomes transgender athletes.Downloads
