The present study aimed to analyze the relationship between the real discourse and the ideal discourse of physical education professors on teaching, from public universities of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The participants were selected according to criteria related to the subjects and the institutions, with a total of 16 out of the 27 individuals that were initially identified. The data were collected through semi-structured and recurring interviews and analyzed using content analysis. There was a predominance of the aspects that move the ideal discourse away from the real discourse, especially those related to productivism, such as competiveness, individualism, devaluation, unfavorable conditions, competitive environments, market factors and economic objectives.
