This article identifies and analyzes scientific production about “gymnastics” in Brazilian Physical Education journals in Web Qualis-Capes from 2000 to June 2015. Using state-of-art bibliometric indicators, we found 340 articles published in 61 journals. Production in the area was constant in Capes’ three-year-period and fitness-oriented gymnastics prevailed in 47% of studies – with emphasis on labor gymnastics published in B4, B2 and B1-rated journals respectively – followed by competition gymnastics (28%) whose frequency in artistic gymnastics studies was 55.2%; they were mainly published in B1 , B2 and B4-rated journals. Finally, aspects of health, physiology and sports pedagogy were the most commonly used topics to discuss fields of practice in gymnastics.Downloads
