This study identified the contemporary traditions expressed through dances and cultural festivals in the municipality of Conceição da Barra, ES, Brazil. It identified Folia de Reis, Ticumbi, and Congo as the most prominent traditions in that area, and it discusses traditional learning practice and knowledge. The study concludes that the symbolic and playful facets expressed individually and demonstrated collectively in the dances are common among all the actors. Continuity of these traditions is made possible by absorbing and integrating actors of other cultural demonstrations that are already extinct in the area in which the incorporation of new elements promotes interaction in the cultural structures of bodily expressions.
