Studies on the mental health of high-performance athletes have been growing internationally, but national production is still limited. This systematic review aims to map the production of knowledge about this athlete's mental health, following the guidelines for systematic reviews (PRISMA). We found an increase in the number of publications in the last five years, with a predominance of publications by authors from English-speaking countries (USA, England/UK and Australia) focusing mainly on the most common mental disorders (anxiety, depression, sleep disorder, use of alcohol). We found that elite athletes have similar or higher rates of mental disorders than the general population. The invasion team sport and the branded individual sport appear as the most researched. This study advances the debate on mental health in elite athletes and draws the attention of Brazilian researchers, managersand psychologists to this theme.
