This study analyzes Brazilian newspaper Folha de S. Paulo’s coverage of the Brazilian Football Team during FIFA 2014 World Cup. It covers the period between May 12th and August 13th, 2014. Based on meaning units, we have come to the following categories: “Optimism, the homeland in football cleats”; “Go Brazil! What about performance?”; “Emotional imbalance”; “An idol is lost”; “Failure”’ “Looking for some to blame”. Finally, we conclude that social and political issues always pervaded sport articles because the newspaper did not dissociate them from its business objectives, even though it has changed its agendas by constantly changing its discourses as a result of the inconsistency of Brazilian football.
