The Funding of Argentine Higher Education: its journey and challenges in times of radical right-wing governments

In Argentina, the public university system is primarily funded with resources from the annual budget approved by the National Congress. Expenditure on higher education covers national universities and includes expenditures made by subnational governments, primarily concentrated in provincial universities and non-university higher education institutes. These institutions create knowledge, enable upward social mobility, serve as schools of citizenship, contribute to culture, support health (through their teaching hospitals), and transform the territory. They operate with high levels of operational and economic efficiency, maintaining very high standards of quality. These reasons are what lead opponents of these institutions to attack them, and from the Presidency of the Nation to launch the largest experiment of underfunding that has existed in recent Argentine history.
