analyzes the blame attributed to the former goalkeeper Barbosa for the defeat by Brazil in the World Cup of 1950 in the light of the debate on race and racism in Brazil. From the point of view of Cultural History, the presence of the racial debate in scholarly literature (DaMatta, 1982; Vogel, 1982; Gordon Jr., 1996) indicating the ex-goalkeeper as algoz in this defeat, express the meanings of race relations in Brazilian culture. On the symbolic plan, Barbosa became one of the emblems needed to denounce the representations about race and specificity of racism in Brazilian society.Downloads
