Abstract

This text discusses the womens volleyball in the city of Porto Alegre, more specifically in the 50s and 60s. It presents as theoretical-methodological support the oral history, of which pr imary sources were interviews performed with women that practiced the sport in such time. Among with those sources there are texts from newspapers, photographs, diaries, as well as publications regarding the sportive and cultural context of the city of Porto Alegre. After the analysis of the sources it was possible to recognize that the womens volleyball is constituted of a space of socialization to those women, increasing significantly their participation in a field considered as of male domain.
