The objective of this text is to debate the capitalist production of football in the context of its most developed league, the Premier League. Using the Marxist political economy method, the accumulation regime of the Football Industry is discussed. The league’s clubs are incapable of producing surplus value and profit, with their economy dominated by finance, in which accumulation takes place under the imperatives of property. In this way, It is concluded that the surplus value produced by the audiovisual sector, when distributed, guarantees income for the clubs. Spectacle football is sustained as a business by the convergence of processes involved in the production of game day and audience merchandise, making rent-seeking partners and media corporations dependent on advertising, which, as a sales function, acts to accelerate the rotation of external capital to the modality.Downloads
