Grounded on Cultural Studies and Gender Studies, this research analyzes the approach given by A Bola sports newspaper to the 19th edition of Algarve Women’s Football Cup. As primary sources, we have considered all the on-line editions of A Bola published along the competition and also specific reports about published in the following newspapers: Recorde, O Jogo and O Norte Desportivo. The analysis of the empiric material has evidenced that the under-representation of women’s football occurs because of the small number of published reports, of the valorization of a traditional femininity representation and due to little visibility given to this modality and its athletes.
