MARTIAL ART AND SPORTS: ONE ETHNOGRAPHIC STUDY WITH JUDO TEAM FROM PELOTAS-RS

Taking into consideration the diversity of meanings attributed fights, one of the aspects that call our attention in to see those fights as a sport which are in evidence nowadays. In order to understand the meanings that are attributed to those fights by practitioners, we have accomplished an ethnographic study with a judo team from Pelotas-RS. After observing for eight months those fighters it was possible to realize that judo, practiced by the group. It was found out that judo is in a constant period of transformation concerning to the meanings of those fights establishing bonds with the Eastern cultural orientations and the rationalization of the practice according to the sport process.
