Gender Relations in the Trajectories of Brazilian Female Mountain Guides

To analyze gender relations in the trajectories of Brazilian female mountain guides, we used a snowball sample method with nine participants, who took part in in-depth interviews that were later fully transcribed. The results were subjected to content analysis with the support of ATLAS.ti 23 software. From this, it became evident that gender bias emerged when the female mountaineers transitioned from amateurs to professionals. However, this did not prevent them from working as guides. Furthermore, some traits considered normatively feminine were highlighted as positive differentiators in the development of the profession. The inclusion of women in this professional field represents a form of empowerment, demonstrating that the guides perform their work with excellence and inspire other women who pursue mountaineering.
