    Abstract

    The aim of this paper is to understand the role of the Ministry of Spanish Foreign Affairs in the Madrid bid for hosted the 1972 Summer Olympics. The documentation of the Archive of the Ministry of Spanish Foreign Affairs has allowed me to analyze how this institution used the Spanish ambassadors and diplomats to achieve influence the members of the International Olympic Committee. At the same time, the paper shows the confrontation within the members of the Spanish Government to support the Olympic bid of Madrid.
