O artigo tem como objetivo examinar como a expressividade pode ser percebida e criada na arte. Geralmente, a expressividade é entendida como uma propriedade que as obras de arte possuem de transmitir uma emoção do artista ou como um efeito da projeção de sentimentos do percebedor sobre elas. Recusando essa posição, sugerimos que a expressividade é um fenômeno perceptivo que resulta da apreensão de certas qualidades dinâmicas intrínsecas às obras. Tais qualidades dinâmicas são discutidas por Arnheim e Dewey e, em seu conjunto, constituem a base daquilo que Stern chamou de “afetos de vitalidade”. Essa nova abordagem da expressividade conduz-nos a uma reformulação, também, de nossa concepção do ato de expressão artística. Em vez de uma ação de descarga de conteúdos subjetivos, a expressão parece ser uma atividade perceptivamente guiada, em que o artista, através do modo como organiza e apresenta os diversos elementos de sua obra, evidencia nela forças vivas e dinâmicas.Downloads
