Partindo da publicização nacional da realidade prisional capixaba, este artigo visa discutir a função política da prisão, na tentativa de evidenciar transformações sócio-históricas que possibilitam a manutenção do estado de dominação presente nas prisões brasileiras e, ao mesmo tempo, as insistentes expressões de combate à tal lógica, encampadas por movimentos dos direitos humanos. A discussão baseia-se em revisão bibliográfica sobre o tema, a análise do Relatório do Conectas Direitos Humanos de 2010 sobre a situação prisional do Espírito Santo e a observação participante na Penitenciária Regional de Linhares e no Complexo Penitenciário de Viana. Constata-se que as prisões funcionam como dispositivos do biopoder contemporâneo que tem como uma de suas facetas a produção de vida zoé, insacrificável e matável. Por seu turno, as práticas de liberdade se apresentam cotidianamente nos movimentos sociais, subvertendo a lógica do medo encampada no estado de dominação.Downloads
