This study analyzes the characteristics of the work of the teacher of physical education and the insertion of the discipline in the organization of the pedagogical work. It is about a qualitative research of ethnographic focus, where a study of case was done in two schools of the municipal net of education of Caxias do Sul/RS. It made part of this research the teachers of physical education who worked during the year of 2007 in the three cycles of basic education, as well the directive teams and the pedagogical coordinations of the investigated schools.
