Abstract

The article emphasizes the context of the censorship of the newspaper Folha do Norte during the Military Intervention in the State of Pará during the period of 1930 to 1935. Based on historical and documentary sources, we present the narratives of the forms of repression carried out in Folha do Norte, through which a relationship between prior and punitive censorship is shown. This allows us to analyze, through interpretation, the historical relationship based on news on the pages of the newspaper. The censorship conducted by the government of Magalhães Barata and the freedom of speech of the journalistic press in Pará are outstanding. Therefore, to our scope, the newspaper ends up being a rich and important source of information for understanding the manifestations that occurred in the State of Pará in that period, as well as the rediscovery and rescue of its memory.
