This paper aims to study the ‘quilombo’ culture in migration to urban areas. The urban territory we have focused on is the Community Quilombola Areal da Baronesa, located in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. The theoretical framework is inspired on the unfolding of semiotic machines developed by Deleuze and Guattari, with emphasis on the concepts of flows and territoriality. The symbolic meanings of the artifacts will be analyzed - behaviors, rituals, every day practices, among other manifestations of that Community. Culture practices stimulate design practices. These practices provide inputs for the discussions that considers them as ecosystems whose creative design processes are capable of producing artifacts that can transform social reality. The production of effects of meanings will be contemplated as well as culture expressions, practice of symbolic power, expressions of desire and social innovation.Downloads
