Biosemiotics as new frontier and its application in environmental communication

The aim of this article is to present the biosemiotics derived from Peirce’s Pragmaticism as a theoretical development able to expand the current concept of communication field in its practical purposes. Through the description of hypothesis concerning the sphere of Environmental Communication, then applied to two empirical tests, we seek to describe how these approaches can be performed. Finally, from the results, we argue that biosemiotics may be a productive extension of the field if it can overcome resistances from self-restrictive conceptions of communication processes.Downloads
