Abstract

The paper focuses on a touristic event, the Biggest Saint John´s Party in the World, which takes place in Campina Grande, in the Brazilian Northeastern state of Paraíba. The analysis material consists of different narratives about the party (from the organizers, stall owners, participants, the media, among others). Based on those narratives, the paper shows the elements which build the imaginary of the party, as well as how the mediations and the construction of meaning about national identity and Northeastern culture are performed. In the different narratives, the "party of june" appears as a sinthesis of the mediation of senses, expressing Northeastern cultural identity.
