Drawing from an ethnographic approach, I analyze in this article the appropriation of cell phones in their intersections with gender relations. I discuss the ways by which technology is appropriated to reaffirm love ties, but also becomes the focus of surveillance, tension and conflict. In this sense, I argue that cell phones engender micropolitics of everyday life in which men and women interact in sociocultural dynamics that reflect gender hierarchies, but also subvert them.Downloads
