The paper aims to discuss the representation process of deafness in the Jornal Visual Minas´ discourses, from a perspective that considers the speech as a social practice. Television news analysis show that discourses rescue and (re) appropriating knowledge that appoint deafness from various sayings at different social practices, which may encompass the field of medicine or anthropology, for example. Every social practice restores the object deafness in different discursive practices and thus redefines and repositions the subjects under these different orders of discourse. Social representations thus reflect social power relations in which these words are inserted. The Jornal Visual Minas, belonging at journalistic field, has a special place in the discursive field of disputes, with the power of uttering words that can influence the formation of ideas about the deaf, rescuing the beliefs and values arising from other discourses, which helps to enhance, reflect and reproduce the power relations established between certain social groups.Downloads
