Abstract

In this article, we analyze the presence of female guests in clips from the Pink & Pill podcast, hosted by Thiago Schutz, one of the most well-known influencers of Brazilian masculinism. Through a rhetorical analysis, we identify the main strategies and argumentative lines in videos where female speakers are invited to defend conservative and misogynistic ideas. The selection of podcast clips, published on Instagram, aims to reinforce common masculinist arguments, which are legitimized in that space by the presence of a female guest, an instrumental use of the notion of standpoint. Considering this, we raise some hypotheses, reflecting on the motivations and consequences of these women’s participation in such a discursive environment. Additionally, we propose a discussion on the culture of podcast clips as a new audiovisual format suited to the context of the attention economy.
