Abstract

This study investigates how ten digital game developers chose to pursue this career based on personal interests and habits, particularly hobbies cultivated since childhood. Among the participants, three work abroad, while the others are part of the Brazilian game industry. To understand this phenomenon, the content analysis method proposed by Bardin was employed. Based on in-depth interviews, two central categories emerged: “childhood motivation” and “professional trajectory.” The results indicate that a passion for video games has been present since the participants’ youth, appearing as a recurring element in their life stories. It was also observed that the choice of specific roles within game development studios is related to individual skills, especially in the areas of communication, art, and programming.
