This article manages an exploratory study on bibliometric and scientometric, whose goal is to give an overview of the researches on patents in Information Science (IC), besides analyzing the aspects of its institutionalization and the research sedimentation stage on the subject. The universe is composed by the scientific production of the indexed journals in Web of Science. It was assumed that the patent document, although considered as an important source of information, has become an object of empirical research with the displacement of the object from its academic sphere of the scientific field of IC to be used as an indicator to study other scientific fields or economic and/or industrial sectors. The results allow drawing a profile of the researchers in this field, the influence of the citations external to the IC, the most used journals to disseminate studies on the issue and the confirmation of an information model production driven for economic interests.Downloads
