Abstract

Children's literature is one of the devices to compose the social repertoire and collaborate with children's identity formation. This work reflected on the presence of black protagonists in Brazilian children's literature and the possibilities of mediation aimed at anti-racist education at school. This is a qualitative investigation using the methodology of bibliographic and documentary research, with the main documents being government and institutional websites where works of Brazilian children's literature with black protagonists were located, published under Law No. 11,645/2008 and recognized by awards: Jabuti, National Children's and Youth Book Foundation, and National Library. Searches in the aforementioned digital documents made it possible to identify the works: Obax, Hortência das braids, Contos de Moçambique and From my window with the aforementioned awards, using as a time frame the awards held between 2008 and 2022. These works were later analyzed and served as a basis for the construction of a pedagogical instrument for the school librarian. The analyzes showed that the four works meet all the principles listed in the National curricular guidelines for the education of ethnic-racial relations and for the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and African history, culture. It is concluded that the number of works of children's literature with black protagonists awarded in Brazil is still small and those that exist need to be publicized to expand their circulation and use.
