“It’s good because it’s bad!” Considerations on the production and consumption of trash culture in Brazil
Keywords:

In this article, I present an overview of the production and consumption of trash culture. Supported by in-depth interviews with fans/producers and by a virtual ethnography of social networking sites, I analyze the importance of digital media as a basis for creating a coordinated community that cultivates cultural artifacts considered “bad”. Arising not only from mass culture but also from amateur production, such products rely on a dedicated fruition by young people who use fun as the main justification for engendering this growing network of cultural exchanges.Downloads
