Is it possible to weave uncoated high voltage electric wires? Communication, journalism and social events involving violence

Abstract

The metaphor of narrative construction as wire weaving, usually taken in a perspective that is purportedly poetic, can be a conceptual and methodological trap when we are faced with the production of textualities about events involving physical and symbolic violence, such as those identified with homophobia ,and aggressions and deaths of women. Our objective is to propose, as an alternative, to think of communicational and journalistic narratives that deal with events involving controversial social issues taking as reference the metaphor of uncoated high voltage electric wires. Methodologically, we guide us through literature reviews and references to research carried out by us, which deal with various forms of violence. We consider that the new metaphor is more powerful, since it allows better visualization of the social conditions of occurrence of homophobia and of aggressions against women.
