Children and adolecents in Rio Grande do Sul: Work and illiteracy

Abstract

The present text is part of a research about the reproduction of illiteracy in Rio Grande do Sul in the 90'. It focuses the relation between child and adolescent participation in the labor market and illiteracy. More specifically, it examines, on the base of new data, a hypothesis of the early 60'. This consists in that the fact the boys present lower rates of literacy than the girls is a consequence of a greater participation of the former than of the latter in the labor market.
