Women Deprived of Freedom and COVID-19: Experiences and narratives in the context of the prison system

La salud penitenciaria es, en esencia, salud pública. La pandemia de COVID-19 ha puesto de relieve las
desigualdades sistemáticas a las que se ven sometidas ciertas poblaciones, lo que dificulta la implementación
de las medidas propuestas por la OMS para contener el virus. Este artículo busca comprender las narrativas
de las mujeres privadas de libertad respecto a su salud mental mediante investigación empírica. El
artículo se divide en tres secciones: en la primera, se presenta una breve discusión analítico-institucional
del sistema penitenciario brasileño, centrándose en la salud de estas mujeres y los impactos de la
pandemia; en la segunda, se describe el método de recopilación y análisis de los datos obtenidos en la
investigación; en la tercera y última sección se presentan los resultados y se discuten las declaraciones de
las participantes y la literatura. La conclusión es que las entrevistadas se percibieron como más ansiosas,
angustiadas y estresadas, con alteraciones del sueño e inseguridad respecto a sus vidas y las de sus familias.
