This research investigates the preservation, valorization, and transmission of Kaingang knowledge, focusing on the community of the Kẽtỹjug Tẽgtũ (Três Soitas) village in Santa Maria, within the context of public policies on cultural heritage and community safeguarding practices. The objective is to propose alternatives for the preservation of indigenous cultural heritage, based on Information Science, in dialogue with the community. Indigenous cultural heritage encompasses material and immaterial dimensions, linked to identity, memory, and territoriality. The investigation analyzes how orality, mother tongue, rituals, bodily practices, and crafts underpin Kaingang culture, proposing strategies for preserving indigenous memory. The research, situated in the field of epistemology, engages with non-hegemonic epistemologies aiming to overcome the historical invisibility of native peoples in cultural preservation. Using a qualitative approach, it is based on ethnography and data triangulation, employing interviews with leaders, educators, and community members, as well as participant observation. This research, situated within the field of epistemology, engages with non-hegemonic epistemologies aiming to overcome the historical invisibility of indigenous peoples in cultural preservation. Using a qualitative approach, it is based on ethnography and data triangulation, employing interviews with leaders, educators, and community members, as well as participant observation. Documentary analysis encompassed national and international legislation. The results show that, despite the legal recognition of intangible heritage, community participation remains weak. Key pillars of cultural sustainability include the preservation of the Kaingang language, the leadership of elders, and the integration of cultural practices in schools, in addition to the strategic role of cultural centers and museums under indigenous management. Based on this analysis, a Guiding Model for the Preservation of Indigenous Cultural Heritage was developed, articulating normative, theoretical, and experiential dimensions, with guidelines to strengthen community autonomy and promote plural cultural policies that value Kaingang knowledge and overcome colonial paradigms.
