Life’s cycle of documents representation: a discussion in the perspective of the records management

Abstract

This article aims to raise questions about the concepts the different phases that constitute the life cycle of documents and the theory of the three ages. Thus, we present the representations of the three phases of the filing by passing documents (current, intermediate and permanent) and the life cycle of documents proposed by James Rhoads (1989) (birth, life, active / productive, death or destruction and reincarnation). Finally, the article discusses the role of the vital cycle of the documents in a document management process, considering that the evaluation criteria document lead to the idea of representation of the document life cycle (pregnancy, birth, life management active / productive and disposal), and this, in turn, leads to the determination of the transit of documents between files, allowing the intervention phases of life, sustaining, finally, the application of the theory of three ages.
