Abstract

John Cage would consistently revisit aspects of Marcel Duchamp's artistic production, conceiving, for this purpose, scenic devices in which sound plays a central role. Upon returning to Duchamp, Cage opens the scene to the perception of unintentional sounds and ghostly echoes, exploring a broad range of noises generated by the manipulation and displacements of the works of the French artist. The scene, in this context, becomes a space where the transition from the visual domain to the realm of sound takes place. It also serves as a conducive environment for the storytelling of the modern artistic tradition, invoked by Cage through a Duchamp à soi, même.
