The Performativity of Presence:
a review of the archive of the Brazilian Journal on Presence Studies

This text presents an analysis of the production of the Brazilian Journal on Presence Studies between 2011 and 2025 regarding the marker “presence.” A total of 20 articles published in the journal are analyzed, showing how the notion of presence emerges both as intrinsic to the performer and in relation to the audience. It is argued that such production has contributed to the field of Performing Arts insofar as it has performatively produced the idea of presence, rather than merely describing it as something that represents the stage.
