This article explores the possibility of developing musical, social, and personal skills in children, reflecting on the effects of their participation in community coral projects. Two coral projects (in three schools and in a cultural institution of reference) are analyzed, aiming to enhance music as children’s instrument of sociocultural and affective development. Being projects conceived by adults, children are active musical subjects of artistic practices. Through an ethnographic approach, the daily life of these projects was followed, focused discussion groups and interviews with project participants were conducted. The data collected suggest that those involved in the projects recognize positive effects on children on the level of personal and social skills as well as on their ability to enjoy and build musical taste.
