O texto discute a problemática da comunicação, a partir da tripartição metodológica das perspectivas que têm orientado a teorização nesta área. Rüdiger amplia analiticamente a dicotomia-de-enfoque apresentada por Eco, ainda na década de 60, no que concerne as recepções de tipo apocalíptico ou integrado dos media e seus produtos. O trabalho propõe a retomada do conceito de comunicação como processo, e questiona a consistência de modelos interpretativos que subjazem a algumas descrições das chamadas novas mídias.
