For a memory of documentary film in Rio Grande do Sul: challenges for a new historiography of brazilian cinema
Keywords:
Gaucho documentary. Memory. Historiography.Abstract
From literature review and consultation to catalogs and dictionaries of brazilian films, we seek a historical understanding of documentary production in Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil, aiming to reflect on the memory of this kind of film. First there was the need of non-fiction cinema in the state, especially the short film, and only later the gaucho feature-length fiction became a possibility. This indicates that the history of cinema in Rio Grande do Sul is not a collection of isolated episodes, as it is believed in the classic historiography of Brazilian cinema.Downloads
