Cultural Preservation through Integrating Banyuwangi's Local Culture

Abstract

This study examines the integration of Banyuwangi’s traditional arts into primary education to enhance engagement, character development, and cultural preservation. Amid globalization's threats to local traditions, culturally relevant education bridges academic achievement with identity. Using a qualitative case study in three schools, data from observations, interviews, focus groups, and documents revealed improved participation, creativity, and moral traits like empathy and respect. However, resource gaps and inadequate teacher training hinder effectiveness. Findings emphasize embedding local culture to foster identity, proposing resource support, flexible curricula, and cultural collaboration for sustainable character education.
