This article presents the results of a study that investigated the relationship between social-emotional competencies and teaching practice in basic education. The research analyzes how this human dimension is addressed in educational policies, the arguments that justify its relevance within the school environment, and the perceptions of teachers from a public school in Taguatinga/DF on the topic. This is a case study, with data collected through a questionnaire. The results highlight the fundamental role of these competencies in promoting a more humanized education, recognizing both teachers and students as unique individuals whose needs must be considered throughout the educational process.
