Characterisation of the academic output in specific fields of knowledge: aplication in construction management and economics

In the last few years there has been a substantial growth in the number of published papers and researchers in the field of Built Environment Technology. However, very little in known on the nature of the publications that form the basis for the development of new research. This article characterizes the research output on Construction Management and Economics, which is one of the main sub-areas of Built Environment Technology. This study was based on the analysis of five editions of the National Conference on the Built Environment Technology, carried out between 1993 and 2002. The main research themes, the academic qualification of authors, and the number of articles produced, classified according to the type of study and the research methods adopted, are presented. Moreover, based on the analysis of citations, the types of publications, their language, and the most cited references are pointed out. The aim of this investigation is to provide information on the articles produced by this community that can be used to support discussions about the evolution and quality of research.Downloads
