The production system design in the management of low-income income

Abstract

Production system design plays an important role at the beginning of any manufacturing effort. Its main objective is to discuss and translate the production strategy in to a set of decisions concerned the production system, forming a structure that will manage different activities. Despite its importance in several industries, this process often neglected in the construction industry. In the segment of social interest housing, there are opportunities for improving the performance of construction projects through the production system design, since they often present many production control difficulties. This paper proposes a model for carrying out production system design in this type of project, aiming to contribute for the improvement of project performance, mainly in relation to cost and time. The main results of the study are concerned with the scope of decisions involved in production system design and the implementation of this process in the context of small sized construction companies.
