First daylight measurement station in the Brazilian territory: analysis of the first two years of data collection

Abstract

Since December 2001, the first daylighting Measurement Station in Brazil, named EMIN Floripa, has been operating in Florianópolis, state of Santa Catarina. This paper presents the results obtained in the first two years of operation. The EMIN Floripa is a General Class station, established according to the standards of the International Daylighting Measurement Programme (IDMP). The paper describes the measurement equipment, data processing procedures and the daily, monthly and annual graphs that present global and diffuse illuminance levels and the frequency of occurrence of sky types. This data compilation is used to generate mathematical models for charactering the daylight availability in Brazil. It is expected that the presentation of this work will encourage and help other institutions and research groups that work with daylighting to establish other IDMP stations.
