Resumo
Os grandes centros urbanos têm experimentado, na atualidade, uma proliferação dos dispositivos de vigilância nas mais diferentes esferas da vida cotidiana, associados principalmente a questões de segurança. A urgência de se lidar com os graves problemas que surgem associados à ausência de segurança tem gerado intervenções que, muitas vezes, buscam encontrar nas tecnologias de vigilância a principal alternativa para prevenir e, mesmo combater, situações de desordem, violência e criminalidade. Assim, o presente artigo tem como objetivo discutir a questão da expansão dos dispositivos de vigilância e seus efeitos na Cidade. Propomos problematizar o modo como tais dispositivos são tomados hoje, ou seja, como principal alternativa de gestão da segurança, de prevenção da violência e da criminalidade. Propomos, igualmente, analisar estes dispositivos como intervenções que reconfiguram a Cidade e que constroem novas realidades urbanas que modificam nosso cotidiano e nos modificam.

Abstract
Large urban centres are currently experiencing a proliferation of surveillance dispositifs in many aspects of everyday life, usually deployed in situations associated with security issues. The pressing urgency to deal with the serious problems arising from a lack of security has called for interventions which often look to surveillance dispositifs as the main palliative for preventing and even fighting urban disorder, violence and crime. Thus, this paper discusses the question of the widening application of surveillance dispositifs and their effect on the city. We problematise the manner in which these dispositifs are being applied as the principal alternative for social control and the prevention of violence and criminality. We also analyse these dispositifs as interventions which reconfigure the city and produce new urban realities which modify us and our quotidian.
