Philosophy of magic idealism acting through the techniques of image transition between the analogical ecosystem and the digital one

The purpose of this article is to investigate how the philosophy of the Magic Idealism – that influenced thinkers like Walter Benjamin and Michel Foucault – is related to digital transformation of image. It is analyzed, specifically, the case of digital restoration and colorization of old pictures. It is worked the hypothesis that these processes find identity in the tension between the rise and the decline of aura. By means of this notion, Benjamin reflects on the conflict between the uniqueness of time-and-space experience and technical reproducibility. The referred aura movements are, according to the worked ideas, related to the image transition from analogical ecosystem to digital one.Downloads
