Abstract

The general objective of the present study is to analyze data life cycle models from the perspective of Digital Curation. The specific objectives are: to build a theoretical framework on Digital Curation; carry out a comparative study between the Digital Curation Center Curation Lifecycle Model, the DataONE Lifecycle Model, the Data Life Cycle Labs Model and the Big Data Life Cycle Model. The present study is qualitative in nature, and descriptive and exploratory in nature. The method used was Design Thinking. From the analysis of each of the data life cycles, it was possible to observe some correspondences with the Digital Curation Life Cycle. It is noteworthy that none of the models presented elements for community participation. In this context, it is possible to adapt the Digital Curation life cycle according to the needs of the community it is intended for. It is necessary to consider the structure of other models for data curation, and understand their possible applications and convergences with Digital Curation, with the aim of including their practices in the model. This would allow adaptations to the original model according to the needs of the community and the nature of the data processed.

Gabriela de Oliveira Souza, São Paulo State University - UNESP

PhD student in Information Science in the Information and Technology research line, in the Postgraduate Program in Information Science at Unesp in Marília. Master in Information Science from the Postgraduate Program in Information Science at Unesp in Marília. Librarian, graduated from the São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP) - Marília Campus. Has a high school education - 2nd grade from FIEB- E.E.F.M.T. Prof. Dagmar Ribas Trindade (2016). She was a scientific initiation scholarship holder from CNPq in 2018, from FAPESP from 2019 to 2021 and from Capes in 2021 and 2023. She was a FAPESP master's scholarship holder between 2021 and 2023. She is currently a FAPESP doctoral scholarship holder. Member of the Laboratory for Research in Design and Information Retrieval (LADRI) and the Research Group on New Information Technologies (GPNTI). He works in the area of Information Science, with an emphasis on Library Science and Museology. His research interests include Digital Curation, Information Design, Folksonomy in digital networks, museum documentation, digital environments on the Web, Information Retrieval and the Museum of the Person.

Daniel Martínez-Ávila, Universidad de León

Full Professor at the University of León, Spain, and Permanent Professor of the Postgraduate Program in Information Science (PPGCI) at the São Paulo State University (UNESP). He holds a degree in Library Science and Documentation from the Carlos III University of Madrid, a Bachelor's degree in Documentation from the Carlos III University of Madrid (2007), a Master's degree in Documentation Research from the Carlos III University of Madrid, and an international PhD in the program in Documentation: Libraries and Archives in the Digital Environment from the Carlos III University of Madrid (2012). He has experience as a researcher and teacher at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (USA), a teacher at Bryant Stratton College (USA), and an assistant professor at the Carlos III University of Madrid (Spain), the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), and the São Paulo State University. He has experience in the area of Information Science with an emphasis on Information Organization.

Maria José Vicentini Jorente, São Paulo State University - UNESP

Professor of Digital Culture and Post-Custodial Information in Collaborative Networks. Visiting Professor at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. PhD from the Postgraduate Program in Information Science at the Júlio de Mesquita Filho State University of São Paulo (UNESP). Specialist in Product Design. Bachelor of Arts from the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP) and in Literature from the School of Philosophy, Literature and Human Sciences (FFLCH) at the University of São Paulo (USP). Adjunct Professor in Full-Time Teaching and Research at the Júlio de Mesquita Filho State University of São Paulo, School of Philosophy and Sciences - FFC - Marília Campus, Department of Information Science. Professor of undergraduate courses in Archival Science and Library Science and of master's and doctoral courses in Information Science at Unesp. Member of the boards of the Librarianship and Archives courses and of the Postgraduate Council in Information Science at UNESP in Marília. Coordinator of the Research Laboratory in Design and Information Retrieval LADRI at UNESP/Marília. Member of the New Technologies in Information Group (GPNTI) at UNESP. Researcher in the areas of Information and Technology, Digital Curation, Media, Intersemiotics, Information Design and Gender Issues related to ICT. Member of the scientific committee of funding agencies and journals in the area of Information Science.
