This study investigates the types of innovation discussed in national and international literature in the field of Applied Social Sciences – Information Science (IS) subfield. To this end, a descriptive Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with a qualitative approach was conducted, employing content analysis and StArt® software to examine recent bibliographic production. The research protocol included the analysis of articles from the Scopus and Web of Science databases, covering the period from 2018 to 2022. Three filtering stages were carried out in a total of 1.014 articles. Regarding the results, the process of selecting the articles for analysis resulted in 139 works relevant to the research topic, with 88 coming from the Scopus database and 51 from the Web of Science database. It is concluded that through SLR it was possible to understand scientific production and promote the advancement of knowledge about types of innovation to obtain an overview of the multiple aspects in which theoretical reflections have been presented in the context of Applied Social Sciences – Subarea Information Science (IS).
